Home Shield: A Smarter Way to Keep Pests Outside
When ants, spiders, wasps, and other insects begin showing up around your home, they usually start on the exterior. Foundation gaps, utility openings, landscape beds, rooflines, windows, doors, and other sheltered areas can all give pests opportunities to move closer to your living space.
Home Shield from Evergreen Mosquito is designed to address pest activity where it begins. Rather than waiting for insects to make their way indoors, our recurring exterior pest-control program creates a protective treatment zone around your home throughout the active pest season.
What Is Home Shield?
Natural Home Shield is a seasonal exterior pest-control program designed to reduce common insects around the foundation, entry points, landscape edges, and other pest-prone areas of your property.
Treatments are performed from March through November, when insects are most active in Northern Illinois. During each visit, our technicians inspect the exterior and apply targeted botanical pest-control products where they are needed most.
The program is designed to help control common exterior pests, including:
Ants
Spiders
Earwigs
Centipedes
Millipedes
Crickets
Boxelder bugs
Stink bugs
Pill bugs
Silverfish
Other common crawling insects
Natural Home Shield also includes the removal of accessible paper-wasp nests within the program’s service limits. Treatments for yellow jackets, hornets, concealed nests, and difficult-to-access colonies may require a separate service.
How the Home Shield Program Works
Our approach focuses on the exterior of your home because stopping pests outside helps reduce the need for routine indoor pesticide applications.
During a typical visit, your technician may treat or inspect:
The foundation perimeter
Door and window frames
Utility entry points
Exterior cracks and gaps
Eaves and roofline areas
Porches, patios, and decks
Garage-door edges
Landscape areas immediately surrounding the home
Other locations showing visible pest activity
Applications are adjusted based on the season, weather, property conditions, and pests present. We do not automatically spray every surface during every visit. Instead, we use a targeted approach that concentrates treatment in the areas where it can provide the most value.
Why Recurring Exterior Pest Control Matters
A single treatment can reduce current pest activity, but it cannot permanently prevent new insects from entering the property. Weather, moisture, landscaping, seasonal insect cycles, and product breakdown all influence how long an exterior application remains effective.
Recurring service allows us to refresh the exterior treatment zone and identify new activity before it becomes a larger problem.
A seasonal program is especially helpful for homes with:
Wooded or heavily landscaped surroundings
Mature trees and shrubs near the structure
Mulch or ground cover along the foundation
Frequent ant or spider activity
Nearby wetlands, ponds, or drainage areas
Exterior lighting that attracts insects
Previous problems with overwintering pests
Gaps around doors, windows, siding, or utility lines
Because pest pressure changes throughout the year, each visit can be adapted to the problems most common during that part of the season.
Exterior-First Protection
Traditional pest-control programs often rely on routine interior applications. Home Shield takes an exterior-first approach.
Every Home Shield visit includes our 3-in-1 treatment, combining targeted botanical spray, granular pest control, and exterior web and accessible paper-wasp nest removal. Together, these three layers provide more complete protection and help keep common household pests where they belong: outside.
Botanical Pest-Control Products
Home Shield uses botanical products selected for exterior pest management. These products are applied according to their labels and targeted to appropriate treatment areas around the home.
“Natural” does not mean that a product should be applied carelessly. Every application still requires proper mixing, placement, timing, and respect for weather conditions. Our technicians focus on targeted applications rather than unnecessary blanket spraying.
Homeowners should keep children and pets away from active treatment areas during application and follow any instructions provided by the technician.
More Than Just Spraying
Pest control works best when treatments are combined with practical prevention. During service, we may identify conditions that are contributing to pest activity, such as:
Gaps around pipes and utility lines
Worn door sweeps
Cracks in the foundation
Tree branches touching the roof or siding
Excessive moisture near the home
Firewood stored against the structure
Heavy vegetation along the foundation
Damaged screens or weather stripping
Openings around soffits and vents
Natural Home Shield does not automatically include structural repair or full pest-exclusion work. However, identifying these conditions gives homeowners the opportunity to correct the underlying access points instead of relying entirely on pesticide applications.
Where available, minor pest-proofing and exclusion work may be recommended separately.
Optional Deer and Rabbit Repellent Protection
Homes with valuable landscaping can also add Pro-Pell deer and rabbit repellent treatments to Natural Home Shield.
This upgrade is designed to discourage deer and rabbits from feeding on susceptible plants, shrubs, flowers, and ornamental landscaping. Repellent applications are targeted to the plants most likely to experience damage and can be coordinated with regularly scheduled Home Shield visits.
Deer and rabbit pressure can change throughout the year, so treatment recommendations may vary based on the plants present, property conditions, and level of animal activity.
What Home Shield Does Not Cover
Clear expectations are important with any pest-control program. Natural Home Shield is intended for general exterior insect prevention and does not automatically include treatment for every pest or infestation.
Separate services or evaluations may be required for:
Termites
Bed bugs
Cockroaches
Fleas
Stored-product pests
Carpenter-ant infestations
Rodents
Wildlife
Yellow-jacket ground nests
Bald-faced hornet nests
Concealed stinging-insect colonies
Large or difficult-to-access nests
Extensive interior infestations
Structural exclusion or repair work
If we find an issue outside the scope of the program, we will explain what we observed and recommend an appropriate next step.
When Does Service Begin?
Home Shield is offered seasonally from March through November.
Early-season treatments help address emerging ants, spiders, and other crawling insects. Summer visits maintain protection during periods of increased insect activity. Fall treatments focus more heavily on pests that commonly gather around homes while looking for protected places to overwinter.
Starting before pest activity reaches its summer peak gives the program a stronger preventative foundation.
